Say no to cold callers

VULNERABLE and older people are to benefit from the creation of a new “no cold calling zone”.

The Trading Standards- funded scheme at Stonecliffe Park in Welton, near Lincoln, will result in signs being put up warning potential callers that local residents are not interested in buying goods or services on their own doorstep.

Householders will also be provided with information packs on home security and dealing with unwanted visitors.

The main aim is to offer protection against rogue traders and distraction burglars by reducing the number of cold callers in specific areas, which then reduces the opportunity for crime.

Graham Penn, doorstep crime initiative coordinator for Lincolnshire County Council’s Trading Standards said: “By raising awareness we have a better chance of reducing the number of victims of this type of appalling offence.”
