Welton-Village.info - the independent Welton village resource

As you may or may not know, this site has been in (slow) development over the past few months. These past 2 weeks however have seen the addition of the key features that make this site work. I'd like to discuss how it can work for you :-)

It's been slow progress what with the day job, but a renewed enthusiasm from outside has really given me the bug to work like mad to get the site fully featured and functional!

Here's how it works: you, a fellow villager, can register on the site in about 60 seconds (no, I haven't timed it but it really is very quick), after which you can submit news and articles and photos and so on, directly to the website!

Submitting articles is easy peasy once you're registered. Here's comes the science bit:

All you do is go to the appropriate tab, pop in a title and a summary (the first bit of the article or news item is fine), and the article text itself, and press "submit". It really is that easy!

If you have a photo or image to go along with your article, you have the option to add that too - use the "Browse..." button of the form to select the image directly from your computer.

For long articles I'd strongly recommend writing them in Word or Notepad or similar first and saving them onto your computer, and then when you're ready just copy them into the article box on the website.

On a Windows PC, to copy a lump of text, highlight it with your mouse (left click at the start of it, hold down, and drag to the end; or press Ctrl + A on the keyboard for "select all") and then right click on the highlighted text and select Copy (or press Ctrl + C for "copy").

Next log into Welton-Village.info and go to the article submission tab, type in the basics (title etc), and then click in the "Full Article" box. Now you can right-click your mouse and choose Paste (or press Ctrl + V for "paste"). Press "submit" at the bottom of the form and job done!

Obviously submissions don't appear immediately, or this site would soon be taken over by South American Geurillas or annoying spam ads from people definitely not writing about this area, so I need to perform a few clicks here and there to make the article live after quickly checking it over.

There will be a time, probably sooner rather than later, that section editors are appointed to keep each section running smoothly, look after the growing image library, and archive older items. This is a community-driven site after all, and I am not some kind of evil website dictator!

Also, don't get me wrong on what content is welcome here, it's about what counts as news and interesting to us, our fellow villagers, and our surrounding neighbours. If you have something to say, say it!
